Would you let a woman work on your car?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
It has never come up. Of course I would but then later I would be thinking a woman was in there touching everything. The order of the universe could be disturbed.

In truth, I worry about every mechanic I hire until I see the quality of their work afterward. I know physiology is a factor when it comes to working on cars. A woman can be strong enough to do much of it. Attitude plays into it as well as hormones. If she can pull 200 ft pounds on a torque wrench, that's alright, but when I hear her call it a "thingy", I walk away, and everything doesn't get torqued to 200 ft pounds anyway. Do it right in the correct sequence- a woman can learn that as well as a man. I'll be fair though. The guy who built my car in the first place could have been a man or a woman or a team of both- maybe high school graduates. I consider individuals most of all. Rosie the Riveter can work on my car...well, her grand daughter, but not the bubble-head with 3 inch nails.

What difference does it make? If the person is properly trained , experienced and has a good track record on repairs, I would let her work on my car. That is really sexist. I had an aunt who was the first woman cab driver in the city of Newark. She would drive and repair a car as well as any man.. and that was in the 1950's

Hi Oh dear what a bunch of morons.yes all these homophobic males. why should any one be different from any one else. when it comes to car maintenance. in my 60 years of tinkering and repair of automobiles boy have i seen some bodging done all by in most cases some dick with a hammer and a chisel.

never a shiela always a Dick Head. so when i see these comments i think and what have you damaged in the past. female mechanics tend to a lot better than most males take better care when dealing wth racing engines. some of the top formula 1 teams have female mechanics. why because they can be trusted to do it right and not take short cuts.

Who really care? Males, Females what's the difference she wouldn't be a mechanic if she couldn't fix cars. I would make either a male or female fix my car as long as they're cheap and don't scratch my car cuz I just got a new paint job yo and I'm planning to propose to bae while we're driving and I don't want to propose to my queen in a car with a bad paint job yo. You know what I'm saying. So yes I'll make a girl work on my car

I've had a woman help me work on more than one engine.

So yes.

ZI don't understand your details.

If you are referring to a woman who doesn't know anything about cars, then I think she would have a very hard time even beginning to "work" on a car. Things are greasy and dark and require tools to take apart. An inexperienced woman - and an inexperienced man also - would probably be hard pressed to do anything at all, less fix or break anything.

Sure. If they have the training to be a mechanic then they know more than most men. And we have power tools such as air wrenches, air hammers, hoists, come-a longs, winches that muscle is not needed. Knowing how to leverage is all they need to know.

Most don't train as mechanics. I have seen more women "welders, plumbers, engineers, electricians, computer analysts, panel beaters, spray painters, carpenters, house painters, managers, CEO's of mega corporations...Lawyers, Judges, Prosecutors...and astronauts. They have proven they can do it all.

. Look, the name mechanic is redundant...they now call themselves automotive technicians as they use computers to analyze what is wrong with it. Less muscle and more brains are required.

But like any other mechanic;they have to prove themselves with a quality results history. Lousy mechanics are both Male and Female..and those that claim they do not know what sex they are.

Sure I would let a woman work on my car, one of the best mechanics I have known was a woman. She worked at the shop across the street from my shop before leaving to open one in her home state

Because the best mechanic I have ever known was a lady.

There is no reason why a lady cannot work on cars and do a better job than a lot of the US street corner mechanics.

I must say, I am utterly disappointed at the disgustingly sexist attitude of many answers.

Of course I would let a woman work on my car.......

She can Clean the seats, Empty the ashtray, Polish the wood dash........etc

Just don't let her open the bonnet !!!

LOL.. women have saved the U.S. in the past .. I think it was like World War I or II (If my old mind is right) .. while our Men were at War the Women took over the factory's for us.. They helped build the Planes and ships that won the war. they were also Women fighter pilots... If trained they can do anything..

good luck

tim

It has never come up. Of course I would but then later I would be thinking a woman was in there touching everything. The order of the universe could be disturbed.

Lol. Nope. Women don't gave the mechanical inclination like men do. Most can't even tell a SUV from a minivan.

I would trust a man

sure i would ! i mean , what difference does it make weather the mechanic is male or female as long as they know what they are doing ! i have seen pretty darn good women mechanics before ! i have seen some men i would not let then work on a bicycle too !

Yes i would , i know a young lady who can put some men mechanic to shame

she know more about a car then any would think i watch her break a motor down

and put it back to perfection the car still running like new today it's been 2 1/2 years

she will get my car if she have an opening .....The girl is bad .....yes i would indeed.

I let no one work on my car but myself. It has nothing to do with gender. If you want something done right learn and do it yourself is how I am.

lol YES! At first I felt like WTH. especially when you go to Advance or Oreilly's and they come out and check your car. But, my uncle's wife is a mechanic (they own a shop together), and she is dang good! Beats every man out there!

Yes! Women make excellent mechanics, don't you know?I actually know some and yes good job as any man.I don't see gender has much to do with it,knowledge does.

I am a mechanic and the only one who works on my cars vans bikes computers home etc I fix everything on my own

Lol, However, you may (have no choice or) no control of da Universe.

A garage may employee who they want.

Just to melt your brain she could be smoking hot too; a fire hazard.

I do me own work but see no reason why not but not that many woman would want to especially on yours.

yes, no reason not too/

I have.

I would not, I have worked in a shop with multiple women and they cover it up but the are always breaking something.

I went to school with 3 Taught my wife to replace the half shafts on her car. So yes I would

hope it helps

Lr

Yes, because I saw a female part-time new hire doing man work is

now in management at $70K yearly and supervises that man wor

As a Chrysler Technician I am perfectly capable of working on my own car.

Would you assume that the presence or absence of a penis determines whether someone is qualified to work on your car? If so, and you're male, why don't you do all your own work?

Yes

Absolutely! With proper training, woman's hands have more dexterity than mens hands.

It doesn't matter to me as long as the work is approved an guaranteed by the dealership.

Yes. Heaven forbid women have applicable life skills and be taken seriously in the work force.
