It depends on the elastomer, and whether or not you have unattended engine oil or coolant leaks that flood them. The usual failure mode is embrittlement, due to heat-accelerated cross-linking. So they stiffen, and then crack through (like glass) under load / shock.
"I just replaced broken front motor mount on my 2001 Honda Accord V6with an aftermarket mount (Fluid filled). Now I have a vibration in the steering wheel and front end when I am idling."
"Fluid filled" sounds bad to me. The relatively rigid solid motor mount will probably remove the vibration.
"How good are these after market mounts? Do they require a break in period?"
I would never consider them.

... this says they were introduced with engines that are more vibration prone. So no, I'd stick with factory-style. Apparently, you have a harmonic at idle, that will fail these filled mounts. Got a warranty on those parts?

[EDIT: "Can I go back to this guy he, do all that work again for free and give me the Honda mounts instead? I also called a couple of Honda dealers and one guy said the after market mounts are usually fine, the other said he wouldn't use them?"
You have to go back to the guy that did it, and ask this question.

The mechanic said the mount was the equitant to the one that was in the car. Yesterday the he checked it out, he said he loosened all the mounts and moved the car around and let them settle into place and tightened them again. The vibration is better but it sure wasn't there before. He said that they can "soften" after a while. I told him I would see how it feels. Can I go back to this guy he, do all that work again for free and give me the Honda mounts instead? The vibration was always there to some degree. Now, you're paying attention and notice it. The engine is a kind of smooth running one, until something is wrong with it. Maybe a $10 set of spark plugs would have solved this instead of $1000 motor mount replacement.
Both the front and rear mounts in your 2001 Accord should have vacuum controlled hydraulic mounts - they soften when at idle in gear. If the vacuum line is not connected to the controller it will pass vibrations to the frame.
They may be over tightened. If that is the case it will cause a tremor throughout the car. If that is not the case they may be bad mounts. I've never heard of mounts needing a break in period.
there should not be a break in period. the vibration can be from many things. if the CEL is on, have it scanned but id assume that you now have a miss.
Soft things tend to HARDEN and then CRACK over time...not soften.

My questions: How good are these after market mounts? Do they require a break in period?
Thanks
