Get a new battery with the most cold cranking amps and the longest warranty. Get winter winter blades. If the frame doesn't have rust, get it rustproofed. If it's 2WD, plan on getting winter tires.
Aside from those changes and learning how to drive in snow and ice, the truck will be fine.
Last winter was brutal here in MN. Rust is common on
most cars driven in the winter. Some lucky people park
their prized car in garages for five months.
It will be fine mechanically. Though I suggest you take it in and have it undercoated. A few inquiries at reputable shops will help.
I am getting a used (maybe around 2004) truck for college. My main concern is if my truck will be able to survive Minnesota. I will be getting here in California, and am afraid of the truck potentially dying because it wasn't "manufactured" or "modified" for a Minnesota winter. Is there certain things I should worry about? Like how the salt will affect the paint? Anything about the engine?
Any advice would be appreciated.
