Why is second gear grinding for me?

My guess is if 2 others have driven it and had no problem getting second or it popping out then its likely your inexperience in driving manual (stick). Trick is depress the clutch fully and slip it down to second. Dont try racing the gearbox (shifting quick) the gearbox isnt made for that. Chances are your not pushing the clutch all the way in when u change or your releasing it before you got second in the gate causing grinding and gears popping out.

That is a car as of age, are you sure as the year you print as 1987.

if so, do a gearbox oil change first,

and then check the cable as the clutch and pedal it should be adjusted,

other than that it is the gear box and expensive as to repair

and not worth it.

also people have a light foot as of manual do you.

also these cables do stretch over time it is worth changing as the cost is small,

that is as the age as the car as you print.

if it shifts into 2nd differently than into other gears then somethings wrong. it could definitely be a bad synhro. 2nd is also usually the gear that goes bad because people shift it too quick when trying to be fast. let a good mechanic drive it, he will know for sure.

I had the same trouble. I started in a BMW fora friend and when I got in a older car I felt it grind. Make sure you push the clutch in fully. Older cars that haven't had a new or upgraded clutch need to. I don't know if that is the problem just my opinion. That was my problem I didn't have the clutch in fully when trying to shift.

Okay so I've barely started driving stick for about a month or so, so please excuse my lack of knowledge but whenever I shift from first to second it either grinds a tiny bit, goes back out to neutral, or grinds a lot (only happened once) so now I'm hesitant into even shifting into second forcefully. I heard it might need a new synchro or clutch or transmission fluid but I let my friend drive it (has a year of knowledge on driving stick) and he said he doesn't feel anything that I'm feeling. I also let my cousin drive it (idk bit a lot of years on driving stick) but he doesn't even feel anything that I'm feeling so I'm pretty sure it's not the synchros or oil it's just me. Can anyone tell me what's probably wrong that might cause this and how to properly shift into second? Any help is appreciated greatly I just want to learn how to shift into second confidently :( lol I don't feel like I'm doing my car justice to its full potential. (Btw it's a 1987 Toyota Supra if that helps)
