Could be the thermostat gone, could be a blockage...
It sounds like you don't know enough to deal with it so the best thing you can do is book it into the mechanic pronto and drive carefully or not at all until it gets fixed.
In case you aren't aware of it, if the engine is overheating enough, you must pull over IMMEDIATELY to avoid the possibility of the engine seizing and VERY expensive repairs. If you aren't certain that you can get it to the mechanic (perhaps driving it up early in the morning when it's still cool or late in the evening) then get it towed; yes, it costs but believe me, the cost of repairs if the engine seizes make the towing costs look like a drop in the ocean.
I hope you checked the coolant in that car. That's where you need to start looking!
So what's the year make and model of your car? When was the last time the cooling system was drained, flushed and CLEANED with one part powered acid cooling system cleaner to get the rust, corrosion and slime out?
I drove to the Dr. About four miles from my house. On my way back home it was jerking slightly so I looked down and the hand was on the Orange line. I made a left turn so that I could pull over and when I looked down again it was back in the normal range. I pulled off again and it stayed at the normal range. As soon as I started parking it went all the way back up and started jerking again. I got my transmission flushed about a month ago. He also fixed a leak in the transmission and unplugged some hoses. And replaced a pan (not too sure what exactly what that was). It was doing the exact same thing when there was a trans leak. I don't see any fluid leaking and my coolant, transmission fluid are both full. Help? What could be the problem?
