Why is my car leaking oil and the check engine light it on.?

I took the car to a small tire shop today and the guy told me the car is leaking oil under the pipe. Why would this be happening? How much to fix it?

The check engine light is telling you that something is wrong. Why the oil leak can only be determined by an inspection by a decent mechanic. Nobody can say how much to fix it until you know where the leak is and just what is leaking. This may be minor, or it could be serious. Only an inspection can tell.

My car had this problem recently and I filled it 3 times before I realized what it was. Check if it is the oil pressure switch at the front of the engine, switch on the engine and check under the hood and see if it drops at the front. This usually costs £20-30 to fix and is a 5-10 minute job

The leak repair depends on which gasket is leaking. No way to see it from here. And the cause of the check engine light can any one of more than 3,000 different trouble codes. Get the computer scanned and then you'll KNOW which code set off the light.

Ask that shop for a repair estimate. get your questions answered.

Have them pull your codes so you can read up on it.

No one can begin to guess.

You can also seek competent help at your car dealer for the updated parts and procedures to be performed using the highest quality and newest available parts.

They can pinpoint problems and have the equipment and experience with your make and model.

Whatever the hell it is.

All depends on what exactly is leaking from where. Your description is far to vague to make any determination.
