Why is my alternator smoking?

Dipstick. There's too much amperage draw from the stereo and lights and you cooked your alternator. You may have even fried some of the external wiring. You'll need a heavy duty alternator to carry the extra electrical load. I'm confident that you haven't a clue how to figure out the current draw of your equipoment, so go talk to a professional shop that does electrical work.

I get what the others are saying, but I really don't think your new headlights were enough to blow the alternator. You wired something wrong and shorted it out.

led's draw WAY LESS than normal headlights. you just wired something wrong.

Need a lot heavier alternator.

I have a 2007 jeep grand Cherokee. I have 2 subwoofers hooked up and the wire is run to my battery. It has been hooked up over a year now. Today I put in new headlights. LEDs and halos and there was smoke from my alternator and my car slowly died. Can anyone help?
