Why does my transmission vibrate and knock in reverse.?

Check your motor mounts and transmission mount. I guess it could be the transmission, it may not be engaging fully at idle and causes a vibration. I once had a car that would not shift smoothly between gears and changing the transmission fluid fixed the problem. With 97K miles on your car new transmission fluid would be my starting point after an exam of the mounts.

89 Buick electra estate wagon. Not much resale value for that but there are station wagon collectors that will pay you more money than the junk yard will. Time to buy a new pick up truck?

Hi so what do you expect of an old car that has covered thousands of miles it needs some maintenance.

a damaged engine mount is the first thing that comes to mind.

might want to check your exhaust system to see if its banging on anything, as well as your trans mount.

It wants OUT!! Don't lock it in the trunk next time.

i have a 1989 buick electra estate wagon with a 307 v8 and 2004r tranny. when i put the car in reverse the car shakes and it fells like the tranny is vibratong and knock i can feel it in my feet. but it only does this when it idles backwards or if your holding down the brake. if i press the gas while backing up it seems to subside and go away. could it be a bad tranny mount or could wrong fluid level cause this or a misadjusted tv (throttle valve) cable do it?? and the car only has 97,000 miles on it car is not that wore out for its age.
