Why does my oil light keep coming on in my car?

i checked the oil twice, seemed pretty full. just had the pressure switch change too. still coming on...what do i do? is it safe to drive??

thanks in advance.

The oil light tells you that the oil pressure is ok.

Normally it is off when you are driving and yet if the oil level drops, as there is then no oil to pump that says there is low or no pressure so the light comes on or in the case of an oil gauge it shows low pressure. (shows correct pressure when all is right.)

In your case as you have replaced the switched and have confirmed the oil level is ok yet it still shows the light that says to me that the oil pump must not be pumping for some reason. So no its not wise to keep driving. You need to seek professional help.

The simplest explanation is low oil level or a plugging oil filter. Sometimes the dip stick is difficult to read. Before I did anything else, I'd change the oil and filter to insure I have sufficient oil level, and the right oil filter. If the problem didn't go away, I'd take it to a mechanic.

Just because u have full oil level that doesn't mean everything Is good. The oil pump could be going out. The oil light Is telling you that something Is wrong.
