If you recently bought it, I'd guess the seller put sawdust in the transmission -- old trick to "dope" a bad one to get it sold. If the synchro rings are shot, the sawdust will slow things down so it shifts OK -- for a while. To check this, drain some of the lube from tranny and carefully examine it.
Maybe the previous owner was a lumberjack and thats just how the car smells, otherwise investigate the car car any kind of leaks
there is a part on the engine that contains something that smells like wood. open the hood and sniff while the engine is running. if you have a dog, the dog can help you.
John nailed it. "DEBRIS". I have seen where mice, chipmunks, squirrels & others have packed leaves, twigs, bark, paper and chunks of wood on top of intake manifolds, inside air cleaners, in the defroster and in exhaust pipes. Start looking.
I agree with SBO. This is one of the oldest tricks in the used car sales lots that advertise buy here pay here or the ones that are usually in really bad neighborhoods
Check your transmission.
check the cat heat shield for grass or other wood like debris
You have junk in your air conditioning system. Get a new cabin air filter and you should be good.
If I turn my car on for just a minute, I can't smell it. But if I leave it running for about 10 or so minutes, I can smell it from inside the car. Any help?
