Why does my car jerk when im in 1st gear?

Would you perhaps be holding down your brake pedal when the car is jerking? If yes, the explanation is pretty simple: when your car is in (first) gear, it needs to be going a certain speed (usually below walking speed for my car) for the engine to be able to rotate properly. When you go below that speed (if you press down the brake pedal; if you don't press down the brake pedal, the car should maintain minimum speed), the engine will start to struggle and jerk, until you reach a speed just too low for it to keep rotating, and your engine will stall. How to solve this? When looking for a spot, and you need to slow down, keep your clutch pedal down while braking, and as soon as you need to give gas, release the brake and hit the gas pedal while releasing the clutch pedal as you would normally shift a gear, except a little more cautiously (= to be sure not to slam your car hard into another car, it's better to ride the clutch gently).

In case you've been abusing your clutch (riding the clutch) too frequently, you might have gotten a rather annoying problem. In this case, your clutch disk will have worn too quickly, and has stopped functioning well. There is little you can do about this: ignore the annoying jerking, or replace the clutch (expensive!).

Riding the clutch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch_cont...

Low Speed

it is normal to slip the clutch especially when accelerating from a full stop, or else it will result in a rough take off, but dont make it a habit. so it's fine when youre pressing the clutch lightly, but not for a long time because it will dramatically decrease the life of your clutch even though it is subject to wear and tear.

By actually do what you do your gna Wear out your clutch faster cause its driving with it half on. That's also the reason for your car not being able to run steady a such slow speeds she's been used. When slowing down with standard you shouldn't used your gas with clutch half engaged no offense just saying you were them down without noticing after a while til you have to shift in second to takes off

In a low speed situation as in a parking lot, depressing the clutch pedal would seem to make more sense instead of "press the gas a little more", don't you think?

When in parking lots looking for a spot I am going about 5mph or more. All I do is press the gas lightly and coast for a quick while and it starts jerking. To get this jerking out I either press the gas a little more which is making it go too fast for me or holding the clutch lightly while coasting. Is this bad? Can you explain when you are "riding the clutch". What do you guys recommend? Or is there something wrong with my car?

My clutch would squeek sometimes when I press it. Also switching gears from 1st,2nd and 3rd it would squeek. This only happens sometimes. I can hear it inside. It is also heard outside fairly well. What is wrong with it?
