It could be condensation in the HVAC system is not draining onto the ground like it's supposed to do.

Sometimes the rubber hose gets clogged up or gets kinked and that water lays in there and starts stinking real bad.

Did the car belong to a smoker? Try spraying Lysol in the air return vents. Typically they are in the center of the car between the seats.

"If you smell odor inside of your car, it may come from

(1) heater core, leaking cause the smell

(2) A/C condensation water can not drain out and it produces mildew

Use your nose to distinguish what it is is not easy sometime, consider both, try heater core first. If it does, you will see reserior tank lost amount of coolant. if not, try 2nd choice."

Mold/mildew on the AC evaporator coils. Very common. Read this article on how to get rid of it.

My air started to stink a few weeks after I bought my car. It's a 2005 Toyota camry. I looked up what it could be and i seen something about the cabin filter that's under the glove compartment. I got that looked at and it was so dirty. So I got that changed the air donest smell as bad but still stinks. Then i used the heat yesterday and omg it smelled like a dirty dog. I hate it, what could the problem be?
