Why do my low oil pressure stop engine light keep coming on?

my car runs and sounds good its not ticking but the low oil pressure and stop engine light keeps coming on

Why do people keep saying to add oil when the Oil light comes on.

Although the light can be triggered by an complete absence of oil, it means LOW OIL PRESSURE: that can be from a failed oil pump, blown filter, general wear on the engine (in particular cam and main bearings).

We can only guess since you have told us NOTHING about the car: age, miles, engine, oil you use. A well care-for modern engine could expect to have some pump or bearing wear anywhere from 150,000 miles or more. An improperly maintained engine can be worn long before that. The usual thing to do in those cases (an older car, getting up to high miles) is to switch to a heavier oil. But since you tell us nothing, we can't offer sensible advice.

Low oil pressure means you need to add oil. Stop engine light means exactly that. If you keep driving, the engine will seize up and stick you with a major towing bill along with the cost of a new engine.

Fill the oil to the full line on the dip stick. If it leaks out, or the light comes back on, then you have a major problem and need to tow the car to a garage for repairs.

if its an older car it could even be a faulty alternator if both lights are coming on at the same time?

Well you could check the oil level if you know how.

If oil level is normal. then it is a oil pump failure.
