The shop that changes my oil uses a bulk dispenser and they check several times while filling to make sure it's right, including filling the filter with oil before installing.....starting the engine (to make sure of no leaks - - and allowing for oil still draining when checking level). Not all shops are so careful - - and if they're using canned oil and the book says it takes 5 quarts, they put 5 quarts in without checking at all . . . . often they haven't let the old oil drain enough to be completely removed.
Just a bit up on the dipstick won't hurt - - - "Harry" is correct that considerable overfilling is bad: the spinning counterweights can froth the oil.......froth in the oilstream to internal parts is not a good thing.
This is bs the dealer suppose to do a perfect job because we pay more.
Yes too much oil is not good. If it is just over the line, I would not wory too much. If its way over you might need to drain some off. Or take it back to them.
it can be. usually you have a full line and an add. anything inbetween is safe. ever do a belly flop? imagine your crankshafts counterweights hitting that oil spinning 3500 rpm. it can be real bad, more than 1 cast crank broke like this. forged is tougher, but still.
Did you check it on level ground with engine shut and cold ?
I just check my oil and it pass the line? Too much oil is bad right?
