Why are my brake pads so loud? ~Stumped~?

Did you replace the pad slide hardware? How about new shims? That's mandatory these days. The stainless steel slides lose their spring tension with heat. High quality shims are often multilayered to reduce noise.

Bottom line is brake pads vibrate. Car makers rely on hardware retainers and grease to dampen the vibrations. But if you bought cheap pads, nothing can overcome inferior friction materials. Read the article below on brake noise.

Return them to Autozone and buy a name brand mid-quality pad. My experience with private labeled brake pads is that they're bottom of the barrel quality at close to name brand prices.

You could try switching the pads to opposite sides to see if the noise follows. Then you could narrow it down somewhat. Is it possible that two of the pads are outer and two inner and they are not matching?

In manufacturing there is always the possibility for a defect.

Maybe just bad pads, but consider this.

Dissimilar metals squeak. I replaced mine three times in a month. I had ceramic, organic, semi-metallic, etc... They drove me NUTS !!!

Maybe you just have super hearing. :^)

2001 Chevrolet Blazer

I just changed the rear pads and rotors and bled the brake lines as preventative maintenance. I did not buy high dollar pads or rotors. Duralast at Autozone. 1 year rotors and lifetime pads (not C-Max). I have used this setup before on other vehicles for budget brake jobs. It seems to me like the passenger side pads are very noisy even when I am not on the brake pedal I can hear them squeaking as I drive down the road. When I do press on the pedal the squeak gets louder.

I am by no means a master mechanic however, I feel like I know what I'm doing. I have installed pads and rotors many times on many different vehicles over the years and have never had this issue. I used brake lubricant on all metal on metal surfaces, I completely removed the slide bolts, re-lubed, and replaced the rubber boots also as PM. I have made sure that the caliper is in fact sliding as it should when the clamping on the pads. I have inspected the clearance all around the rotor to ensure there is nothing rubbing (except the pads of course). I have been driving on them for about a week now. Today I completely pulled everything apart to make sure all was well and re-applied some of the brake lubricant. Still squealing like a banshee.

This is only on the passenger side, driver side is nice and quiet.

Is it possible that I got a bad set of pads? If so, will the Autozone warranty allow me to trade them in just because they are loud?

PLEASE HELP!!!!
