White smoke coming out of car exhaust?

White smoke = blown head gasket

Is the coolant low?

Does the oil look like chocolate milk?

Has the engine overheated?

Have a mechanic do a head gasket compression test.

Are you definitely sure that its a smoke and not a steam that's coming out of your car? If its a steam then you may be looking at a coolant leak. However, if it really is a smoke then its likely there's a problem with your valve guides; it might be worn down. The reason for the oil smell may be because the oil leaks pass by the valve guides all the time. Simply put, you're burning oil while driving around. To be sure park still and check if there's an oil leak without the smoke.

Certainly sounds like your head gasket is failing. You need to do a compression test right away.

Coolant could be leaking in to the oil somewhere and it might not be the head gasket. Check your oil if its a milky color than blow head gasket. Just check for leaks when you put coolant in it best way to find a like what I so is let it sit over night on a dry spot on the street than see if I can stop a leak the next morning.

I have a 2006 Chevy Impala SS and there's about 90,000 miles on it. my engine is a V8 but it switches from 4 cylinders to 8 automatically. I've noticed recently that when I accelerate, access amount of white smoke comes out of the exhausts and it smells like oil. It happens the worst when I'm coasting and it's in 4 cylinder mode and then when I step on the gas and it goes into 8 then it smokes like mad. Does anyone know what this problem is or if I should do something about it? thanks and much appreciated :)
