White smoke coming from engine after oil change?

Blueish smoke is oil, white smoke is steam, from coolant and water.

You maybe have had the head gasket fail, go to a qualified mechanic right away.

Make, model, year and miles are key here, please post that info. Were you topping the oil off so it was not empty?

Double check they did not over fill the oil. Can you see smoke coming from the valve cover gasket area?

You need a mechanic to look at it. Could be a head gasket is bad, could be the piston rings are bad, or maybe if you are lucky it is just the sludge burning off in the engine.

Make sure air filter is new. Get the PCV system checked, that is most likely clogged.

But the key is to determine if engine is ruined or needs a major overhaul.

its a 2003 vw gti, it has had major over hauls new timing belt. water pump, clutch, i dont think its ruined or needs a major over haul, just started after oil change, thanks

The VW engine is made from the best materials known, but requires ONLY CERTAIN TYPES of oil that have the specification numbers. 502/505 written on label. No VALVOLINE EVER!! The VW like all European engines have OIL SPRAY JETS in them. They focus clean euro spec full synthetic oil at wrist pins and skirts. It keeps pistons cooler and provides safest high engine speed running. Bad oil choices clog up the works. Get a motor flush with AMSOIL POWER FOAM to remove all the baked in grunge made by bad oils. Then use Mobil zone 0w-40, or PENNZOIL ultra euro that gives a 15 year, 500 k mile warranty. The factory oil was Pentosynth and RAVENOL German oil. Most oil sold is not worth buying. You will feel the difference once engine is clean. You should NOT let GM type people even change your oil. They have inferior reasoning. Once you get proper EUROPEAN oil in engine it will last for more than one full year. LUBRO moly is good for TWO FULL YEARS. All other fluids also come from Pentosin compa

The white smoke usually indicates some type of moisture, such as wiper fluid leaking onto a hot surface, such as the exhaust manifold, which would explain the smoke under the hood and the nonworking wiper washer. check the washer fluid tank. If it is out of fluid, refill it and check for leaks.

they left the old gasket on

so i had a oil change and after it was done when i was driving home I noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust. It went away so i let it go,Now a week later it is getting worse, loads of smoke and the smoke started coming through the hood and into my vents even.I hadnt changed the oil in 30 k miles. Also they filled my windshield wiper fluid and that had stopped working so maybe those hoses are leaking? what could this be anyone help please!!!!
