A blinking check-engine light signals an engine misfire condition. The misfire condition is supported by the fact that you felt the engine "stuttering" - that's exactly what a misfire would feel like as you sit in the driver's seat.

As for what's causing the misfire, there are literally dozens of possible causes which means that without (a lot) more information, it would be very difficult to give you an accurate diagnosis of the exact cause over the internet.

It would be wise to get it to a mechanic to look at it in person at this point. If you're looking to diagnose the problem yourself and avoid a trip to the shop, it would be a good idea to have the OBDII codes (check-engine light codes) read by/at a local auto parts store to point you in the direction of the cause. Know that if the check-engine light is not still on after the incident though, you may well find out nothing by trying to read the OBDII codes. Good luck.

Honestly, do not drive the car with a blinking check engine light. Blinking check engine lights are the worse type. More than likely one of the individual ignition coils are not firing the spark plugs. As spark plugs age and miles pile up, the plug gaps burn wider. Wide spark plug gaps will cause the ignition coils to overheat and fail.

The dealer of the car is the best place to gave the car toed to.

It's a 2.5L engine I'll bet and the catalytic converter has deteriorated and been inhaled by the engine or the plenum butterfly screws have dropped into the engine. Time for a new engine.

Check the Battery Cables could be Loose Battery Cables

Check Engine oil Level , Coolant Level , Fuel Level . Belts, Alternator

If all this is the way its suppose to be. Could be sensor,or something more serious

Hope this Helps.

did you drive through a puddle? if not find local auto zone they'll scan for the code if the engine light is still on that will lead us in a direction to help you when you get that code
