Which way do I turn the the hex wrench?

Posted at: 2015-01-07
My plumber came out about a year ago becuae it was making a sound of metal. He said that over time the vibration of the garbage disposal makes it work its way loose. He took the wrench and turned it one way and then would abruptly turn it the other way. It tightened something up cause right after that it stopped making the noise and worked fine for another year. Now it is making the same metal against metal sound. When he came out last year he used the hex wrench and told me if I would do it myself I could save 60 dollars for a house call, and then he chuckled of course! LOL There is nothing stuck. I have looked and actually put my hand inside to feel the two metal things on the sides and everything is free...not stuck on nothing. So, I need to get rid of the metal clanking inside. Thank you all for help!! :)

The hex at the bottom is used to break up a jamb in the disposal. It doesn't tighten anything. Turn it either way to break it loose.

The same way you would open a jar of pickles. But it depends if the jar of pickles is upside down or not?

Never heard of a garbage disposal having a flywheel?

The main thing under is the ring that holds it up?

What racingfan3 said. Turning the bottom hex is to unjam the disposal. It's does not tighten anything.

That's to un-jamb the thing. Whenever mine jambs up, I just stick a broom stick in there at an angle and rotate it to loosen it up.

Saves me from having to go round up the hex tool from the garage.

Usually the her bolt on the bottom of a disposal is used to break the disposal free if you get something stupid in it. Bolts go righty tighty lefty losey.

Which way do I turn the the hex wrench on the under side of my garbage disposal to tighten the flywheel?? It gets loose sometimes and I usually pay the plumber but he showed me the wrench and told me I could tighten it myself next time and save $$.
