Where to put the bald tire for ride home?

Never put a bald tire on the rear. It really shouldn't be used at all. Put the tires with the most tread in the back.. Even if it is all wheel drive. back bald tires will hydroplane due to the fact they roll straight and they cannot get rid of water fast enough since there are no snipes or treads to pump the water away. It can happen in the front, but steering even a little does push some water away ... Get rid of the bald tires asap.

Get two new tires and an alignment! An out of alignment grunt end can greatly reduce tire life and cause dangerous edgewear. Running a new tire and a bald tire on the drive wheels can cause differential damage, which on a FWD car means transmission work.

Your car is probably your first or second most valuable asset in your life, you trust it to keep you safe multiple times almost every day, the least you could do is to take a little better care of it than driving a tire down to belts. You're endangering both your safety and the safety of others on the road.

In the trash and you get a tow. I can see you overturned on the side of the road after the tire blows and you lose control. Have you ever seen people speeding along of the compact spare tire that has a placard speed limit of 50 MPH? If there is one general cause of traffic accidents it has to be ignorance. Here is one photo as evidence. This guy was speeding, tailgating and being "normal" nincompoop on the highway. As to the tire, are you not able to place a simple phone call to an auto repair shop that could inform you a professional opinion? How do you know if these answers are correct? No Google Search either?

Not too common knowledge, and i know you want pulling grip, but nhtsa wants tracking grip so Technically, "legally", the better tread should go in the back to reduce oversteer(back end gets thrown). Their correct belief that the common driver can correct understeer(where the front end keeps going not where you want) easier by simply slowing down and driving slower in the first place, whereas oversteer can take you more offguard and akes a skilled driver to correct.

Fast version

Your tires with the best tread should always be mounted on the rear axle, this is an industry standard. Why? To reduce the risk of hydroplaning and loss of control.

You need to buy two new tires. Put the new ones on the front.

Only one place for a bald tyre - recycling

The new tire should go on the back.

The bald tyre is either road legal, or it isn't! If it isn't road legal then don't use it.

I got a flat tire the other day and now need a new one, but my other tire is getting fairly bald also (the blowout happened on the front passenger side tire and the bald one is on the front drivers side.) my car is FWD so i swapped the blown tire for the back one and put the spare on the back. When i get this new tire, should i should i put the bald one on the back or put the new one on the back? all answers will be appreciated
