When you get an oil change and they say your dipstick was dry do they put oil in your car?

If you're getting an oil change they'd better put oil in your car!

An oil change involves draining the dirty oil from your engine block, changing the filter it's pumped through to catch particles, and then refilling the engine with a specific amount of oil. If your dipstick was dry, chances are you've either got a leak or you're burning oil, though a lot of those $20 quick change oil shops might under our over fill your oil.

When they say your dip stick was dry, that means you were dangerously low on oil. Not a good thing. When you get the oil changed, they will put a new filter on and bring the oil up to the proper level.

We sure as heck wouldn't! You could sue the oil change shop if the engine seized-up on the way home because of your failure to check the oil once a weak and fill the freaking dry engine.

No...they just frickin changed the oil and filter and it should be ok for a while. You are supposed to check the oil every 1,000 miles and top it up if it uses any. Change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles.

the dipstick only reads the top 2 qts roughly. it is a good habit to check it every time that you fill the tank.

Yes,but you'd better find out where the oil is going. It is apparent that you have a leak..

Why would your dipstick be dry? Would it be because of the owners failure to do basic checks?

They are covering their butts. If your oil was really low you may already have some engine damage and if it dies a few hundred mile later it is not their fault.

Yes. They are telling you that the oil level was very low. They will fill it with new oil. You should probably check it more often and add some if it needs it.
