Continuously-Variable Transmission was a system used by the Dutch truck-maker DAF, who made a small and poorly-selling car in the 1970's - the car was slow, and quite dull to drive. It's apparently and odd thing to experience, as the engine revs to a certain speed, and then the transmission varies itself to bring you up to speed - it relies on two large rubber belts, it's said to run smoothly, but WHY have something SO odd and out of the mainstream? People 'stayed-away in droves' from the dealerships. About twenty years back, Ford had a go with putting a similar transmission into the Fiesta. Zero consumer interest meant it died a death.
There's this thing... called google. You can use this amazing google to research the definition and operation of a Constantly Variable Transmission all by yourself!
