What would happen if I put 1920's gasoline in my modern car?

Gas in the 1920s was around 55 octane; it would not run well, if it would run at all. (The ECM can retard the timing only so much.)

The lead in the 1920s fuel would damage the catalytic converter in the modern vehicle, plugging it up and restricting exhaust flow. So the engine may seem to run fine at first, but drive a couple hundred miles and it would be backfiring and stalling from the restriction of the plugged catalysts.

If the 1920s gasoline is Aviation Fuel (your character gets it an an airport), and if the catalytic convertor(s) are removed from the car, something that even a service shop in the '20s could handle it is basic pipe welding, then the modern car would run fine on it for long distance.

Just one tank may not harm anything. The computer will sense a different gasoline blend and adjust the mixture and timing as needed. I really don't know how long a cat converter will last with leaded gasoline.

Gasoline used to be higher octane and contained no ethanol. Also it contained lead which helped protect the inside engine parts. All in all it would make your modern engine run better.

It would BLOW UP! I \t too YEARS to get ETHYL LEAD into the fuel and years more to get it OUT again! MODERN fuels are now LOW in sulfur content! Most older engine needed to be ADAPTED to newer fuels with different VALVE SEATS and even different HEAD designs! GOOD LUCK!!

It would run better.Would not hurt the engine. If you ran modern unleaded gas in a 1920 car that would eventually burn up the valves.

Where the F*** did u get that????????????

If I was able to drive back in time and had to put 1920's gasoline in my 2014 Nissan, what would happen? Would the car konk out immediately? Would it run, but poorly? Would the engine only last for so many gallons before breaking?
