blue smoke is from oil burning. oil is getting into the piston chamber either by bad piston o-rings or bad valve guide seals. i think for sure the car is burning oil and maybe leaking oil. Why else would he need to top off oil for? Changing the oil is mainly for the filter so you get cleaner oil. You cant just drain the oil and expect to have clean oil for long without changing the filter.
Blue smoke for 15 - 20 seconds after start up is a sign of worn valve guides. If the same car smokes when sliding a foot completely off the gas petal @ 60 mph the car has worn valve guides.
White smoke = blown head gasket
Blue smoke = burning oil
If you don't actually change your oil for 8 years and you run the car regularly, you can say goodbye to that engine. The very least you're looking at is fried piston rings.
either head gasket or burnt up rings..
so this guy speeds of in his **** box hatchback probably 1975-80 model, and all i see is it spewing out whitish/blue smoke for literally 15 seconds and it smelt exactly like burnt rubber or plastic
