There could be any amount of reasons why it is overheating. Water pump, thermostat. You don't say if it is losing coolant. A radiator doesn't have to loose coolant for an engine to overheat. It could be blocked, the pump may not be working properly or the thermostat could be faulty. The block could also be clagged up with rust. One of the easiest ways to check, [assuming it has a radiator cap because some new vehicles don't] would be to remove the cap, let the engine warm up and if the thermo and the pump are operating correctly, give it a couple of revs to see if the coolant is circulating.

There could be many problems like leaves blocking air flow to the radiator, or you just have water in the system and no coolent, or just low coolent levels to check it first if the engines hot let it cool or else you will look like Freddy Krueger. Then wrap a fowl around the radiater cap once the engines cool and twist it off if its low add some premix coolent till it's almost at the top tighten the cap then see how it runs. Immediately pull off the highway or road, pull over to a safe place and check your coolant level, and make sure you still have a water pump belt. If your water pump belt broke, you may make a belt that will last 5 or 10 miles with shoe laces..
