Wait until the factory warranty is almost run out and then decide if you want to pay for it, the extended warranty companies will give you the same price so it's not like you'll be penalized for not getting it from the start. As the others have said, use up the factory warranty first or it's a waste of money.
Extended warranties on NEW vehicles are a waste of time and money. You have a complete factory warranty for the first 3 or 5 (or even 10 )years, so why spend your money on something you don't need.
Unless you are buying a car that historically has problems, don't bother. I would look up reliability in Consumer Reports. The car issue came out last month.

The experts say its seldom worth it. Nine out of ten cars will never use it, that is their profit margin. The hundreds & hundreds you pay for the ext warr. could be put to better use.
