What is the meaning of 18 cylinders V8 engine?

In V8, 'V' is the configuration, '8' is the total number of cylinders.

I think you have just asked like that because there is no such thing like aV8 engine having 18 cylinders and if yes how can they be alligned. A V8 engine has 8 cylinders mounted on the crankbase in each of 4 cylinders with all 8 pistons driving a common cranshaft. So, 18 cylinders in V8 engine i dont think so.

A V8 has 8 cylinders

A V8 has 8 cylinders

Are you sure you do not mean 16 another 18 and the 16 would be 16 valve V8 that would be 2 valves per cylinder which is the norm, some do have more valves per cylinder, such as a 24V V8

A 'V8' is .....A V8. It does not have 18 cylinders.

The Bugatti 'Veyron' (Dr Bearface) is a 16 cylinder 'W' engine. ie effectivly two V8's 'grafted' together in a 'W' formation with 16 pistons working on the same crankshaft (1000BHP)!

I really don't know why 'Bikerboy' had T/D's. He had more idea than anyone else on here !!

Maybe it was a mistype...maybe 8 cylinders V8 engine. After all, they did make straight 8 in the early years.

18 valves in a 8 cylinder

There is no such thing. By definition a V8 engine is an eight cylinder engine with four cylinders on each side. A straight 8 would be one with 8 cylinders in a row.

***EDIT*** Just to confirm I am not crazy, here is a simple link confirming this.

There is no such thing. By definition a V8 engine is an eight

Gotta have a V8

18 valves in a 8 cylinder

I think they mean valves and their not to smart about that either.that is not a picture of a v-8 that's a 12 jag eoro crap.v w what ever still german made eoro crap. who won the war henry ford caddilac or hitler.

no such thing my friend. v8 designates a v configuration and cylinders numbering 8

Hi the above engine is a buggati velron engine.

yes a 18 cylinder in each bank in a V formation has been done. the best known big diesel is the napier engine which is in a triangle shape which is six cylinders in three banks each with six pistons used in some mine sweepers ships belongin to the south african navy. the otehr aplication was two of these engines used in the deltic locomotives of british rail back in the late 1950's and 1960's.

having 54 cylinders and 108 pistons two pistons to each cylinder where the pistons meet in the middle.a complex gearing arrangement.

this is a audi with a fitted W12 6.0 litre engine.

it is just someone mixing words and terms without really knowing what the person is talking about, bit like saying a "what's the meaning of a twelve legged biped"

perhaps you saw an L8 which should be a straight 8.

It means you don't understand engines.

Its means bow down to me

yes

means fast

It's a typo.

power

Buy it

ik

no such thing
