Monroe, Gabriel, KYB are the most common. Not a beans worth of difference between them. If you really want to spend money, buy Bilstein.
However, if you want the smoothest ride, replace springs at the same time.
What ever shock brand you choose, get the best one offered for your car. ie. Gabriel offers a "Guardian" & "Ultra" shock for your car. For the few bucks more that the "Ultra" shock costs, it will give far superior performance than the "Guardian". As long as you have good tires, it'll feel almost like new car handling.
For me LUX is best brand.
I have a 79 cougar and it is far past the time to replace my shocks. I was wondering if there are any substantial differences between brands and if so, which ones are the best? I want to feel as if I am riding on air so I don't have to deal with the obnoxious bumps that I currently do. Comment with the best brands and models. Thanks
