As to a car battery. What they do is a" load test " on the battery. And check the battery cable connections. That is all they can do. A load test tells if the batt is good or bad. You can google " car battery load test " if you want to learn what that is.
It's a test under controlled load (in A) conditions, where voltage across terminals should stay above a given threshold value. If the reading is below, the battery is bad and is best replaced - if above, it can probably resist another winter.
