The cause is either: low brake fluid or a bad sensor on the brake fluid bottle, or a park brake switch. Check the brake fluid level to start with, that is the answer 99.99% of the time.
If you are low on brake fluid as people suggested. If you are low this means one of two things you have a leak or you need brake pads/shoes. DO NOT JUST PUT FLUID IN. You will be sorry later for it.
Or you have your parking brake on. Or you have a sensor that malfunctions. Chances are you need brakes or your parking brake is on.
Last year my Dodge had the same solid red brake light on. I thought my parking brake sensor was going out or something. So I had it looked at and I just needed my brake pads replaced. It also could mean your low on brake fluid.
Most often it means you need to add fluid, sometimes it also means you have air in the lines
that your emergency brake is on
I have a newly bought 2004 Cadillac SLS. It has new brakes and tires so I'm not sure why the brake light is coming on. I thought it might be the cold since it dropped from 60 degrees to 30 over the course of one day. It's not a yellow light like I have seen on other cars. It's red. What can this indicate? Might this indicate an expensive problem to fix?
