1. Find out how big the tank is. Assume that you would refill the tank at about ? full. So, if a vehicle has a 16 gallon tank a fill-up would be about 12 gallons.
2. Multiply the current price per gallon of the appropriate fuel for the vehicle time the number of gallons in a ? tank fill-up. Assuming the following
? One gallon of fuel cost $3.059
? One fill up will be 12 gallons
? The result would be 12 x $3.059 = $36.71
3. The MPG Sticker will give you average MPG for driving in the city and for Highway.
4. So if the city mileage is 21MPG then you will travel 21 x 12 or 252 miles
? MP$ for this would be 252 / 36.71 or 6.97 MP$
5. If the Highway mileage is 28MPG then you will travel 28 x 12 or 336 miles
? MP$ for this would be 336 / 36.71 or 9.31 MP$
Keep in mind that the EPA mileage estimate is based on a repeatable driving pattern that is completed under tightly controlled conditions that do not replicate “real world” conditions. You may achieve better or worse fuel economy depending on where you drive and how you drive.
Miles per gallon (mpg) litterally means how many miles a car can travel on 1 gallon of fuel. So 16mpg city driving means the car will travel 16 miles in city driving conditions.
The mpg figure is a debatable benchmark as real mpg fugures depend on many different factors, such as driving style, use of air con and speed to name a few. Rarely do the listed mpg figures match real mpg figures.
Also EU and US mpg figures don't match up as EU mpg is in Imperial gallons not US gallons. 1 US gallon is equal to 0.832 Imperial gallons.
mpg means how many miles your car will travel on one gallon of gas, it has nothing to do with how much it will cost ou to fill up your fuel tank.
Thats how many miles u can drive that car per gallon of gas used. So if u put in 12 gallons of gas your car would last roughly 192 miles in city traffic before its empty.
miles per gallon means how far you can drive on a gallon of gas ! say if it says the car gets 30 miles to a gallon of gas then it means you can go 30 miles on one gallon of gas !
It means how many miles that vehicle can go on one gallon of fuel. There are city miles per gallons and highway miles per gallon.
As far as calculating goes, it all depends on the price for fuel at the time. Let's say the car or truck you want has a 15 gallon fuel tank. And gas is currently $3.25 where you are. It would cost about $48.75 in fuel to fill up completely (3.25x15=48.75). If it is a 15-gallon tank and the car gets 30 highway mpg, you'll get about 450 miles per tank. Less if it's city miles.
I'm buying a used car and before I do, I'm looking at which cars have better gas. I have no idea what "MPG 16 city driving" means.
I just want to know how much it costs to fill up that tank of gas. If the say how much the MPG is, how do I calculate how much that would be to fill up each time the tank is empty?
