It means either the antifreeze or the refrigerant for the AC is leaking, usually the antifreeze. While a small leak isn't critical, as long as you add more coolant regularly, it needs to be fixed. You could have a hose ready to go and that will leave you stranded.
It means if you don't find and fix the leak, you will toast your motor. Hoses, the water pump, and the radiator are the first places to check. If you are not mechanical, take it to a reputable shop. BMW dealer shops will charge much more. An engine will be 4-5k to replace, maybe more.
