Getting behind the wheel can be a bit overwhelming for the first time! I personally was scared that I was going to hit someone else, but I was properly educated, and knew I could do it! So in about 3 days of driving, I really had the hang of it, and 6 months later, I had my license! (At the time I had a learner's permit)
Just do your homework, know the car you'll be driving, and I'm sure you'll do great!
For many people its scary because the car is so powerful and responsive that it surprises some people. Best to take it very slowly at first, start learning in an empty parking lot on a weekend. My kids started in the high school parking lot on the weekends. Then down small streets, etc. Don't go to busy streets till you feel in control of the car, usually a week or so.
It feels like your going really fast when your only going like 10 miles an hour but then you get used to it. I didnt think it was that scary.
Exhilarating, not scary. I think that the freedom to be able to drive is THE biggest freedom I have in my life. Ohh, but on a few memorable drives, I HAVE actually managed to scare myself, and had my legs shaking afterwards.
;-P
Awkward is a better description. I bicycled a lot, which definitely helps, but being in the driver seat of a car makes you aware how little you know about how much to push or steer to make it do what you want.
Scary? Never been scared to drive, or operate any vehicle.
It shouldn't be scary.
More responsibility than you can fathom.
How scary is it
