Spend a couple hundred bucks (at most) at a muffler shop - - be on your way in half and hour without killing yourself - - and with a lifetime warranty in your pocket. (those muffler guarantees are real - I've had free replacements several times: they just figure that if you need a new muffler, you won't still have the car when it needs another one).
Unless you have experience with this sort of maintenance, it'll be a heck of a lot less frustrating to just go ahead and pay a certified technician do the job.
you cant do your own muffler because it requires welding.
I've got a 97 jetta and the muffler makes a ton of noise so i think it's time for a new one. The cost of the replacement muffler is $80 so about what would it cost to have it installed or is it easy enough to just do myself?
