Move to a free state. We don't have to have an intake hose, exhaust, or even 4 tires to register a vehicle. It would be the hose connecting to the intake on the car. It will be 3-4" in diameter and be corrugated.
What state do you live in, Nazi Germany? In Oklahoma we don't even have annual inspection stickers any more much less smog checks. To hell with those people.
You might think that half the cars on the road might be dangerous, but that's not the case at all. People generally know when it's time to get a new tire even if all they can afford is a used tire. They also know that when the muffler is falling off it's time to go to a muffler shop. Anyone who can't figure that out is pulled over & given a ticket. Pretty simple system huh?
I better answer the question though or the SS will report me to the fuhrer. Can't be a fuel line or you would be leaking all over so it has to be the air intake from the air filter to the air intakes where the fuel & air is mixed.
Are you sure? There is the hose from the manifold to the power brake unit, and that could be cracked, and it's a cheap fix. There are several vacuum lines, any one of which could be cracked, but easily replaced... usually. If it's the intake manifold, then that's not so easy.
The hose will have to be replaced because of smog regulations. nothing else. it actually does not matter so much for the drive-ability of the car, it matters for emissions if the AIT sensor is not getting an accurate reading.
Why the 'ell didn't you ask them to show you what was cracked? You were there, they were there. Duh...
I went to my local smog check place to get a smog check and they told me I have a cracked intake hose. I'm not too familiar with car parts. I have 98' Toyota Camry LE
