What could cause a car to lose transmission fluid and antifreeze?

Sounds like you may have scraped the bottom of the car on something that punctured the radiator and the transmission pan.

Also, transmission fluid is routed through the radiator to cool it off, so damage to that portion of the radiator could also cause transmission fluid and antifreeze leaks.

I would guess you had a radiator issue. Trans fluid runs to radiator. If your radiator went crazy you could have trans fluid and radiator fluid leak. New radiator time! New trans fluid time!

YOu have a double failure. Transmission cooler line failure and transmission cooler failure. The cooler is located inside the radiator, so if it fails, coolant and transmission fluid mix.

I turned the engine off immediately, so here's hoping there was no damage above and beyond the initial problem.

It sounds like your transmission went out. By revving the engine, you overheated it, and/or had a coolant hose fail. I've had it happen. I hope you killed the engine after all that. If you didn't it is very possible to crack the head/block...which means a VERY costly repairs. Hope it works out.

I was sitting at a red light in my 2005 Nissan Quest, when the light turned green I hit the gas and, although the engine revved...I didn't go anywhere. I was able to go very slightly by revving the engine, just to get out of the lane of traffic. The car was leaking transmission fluid like crazy. By the time the tow truck driver got there the transmission fluid leak had slowed but suddenly antifreeze started to drain from the front center portion of the engine! What kind of failure could cause catastrophic loss of transmission fluid and antifreeze?
