But your question obviously is actually why the battery drains overnight when the alternator is not running to keep it charged. And as Country Boy says, it is something like an after market radio wired incorrectly.
The way to tell is to turn everything off, including closing the doors, and then removing one of the battery cables. Put a test light between cable and post. It should not light brightly. If it does, then remove fuses, etc., one at a time until it goes out of very dim. Then you have narrowed it down. If you need a quick cure, put in a battery switch and leave if off when not running.
If you added an aftermarket radio amplifier your alternator will not produce enough amperage to run it without discharging the battery. There is no such thing as "draining" an alternator.
For gosh sakes man, test your battery with the engine running with an inexpensive volt meter set @ 20 volts. If the alternator is charging properly, the volt meter will read between 13.5 - 14.2 volts.
is this a trick question? You can't drain an alternator, unless you mean letting the smoke out of it.
This question doesn't make any sense. If your alternator is working, once your car is syarted, the alternator will keep your battery charged and keep up with electrical loads such as blower motor, and lights. If the alternator is bad, it can't do that, and the battery goes dead because it's not being charged.
If you let the car sit over the weekend and the battery goes dead, there is a drain on the battery. You may have to locate that source of power consumption. No matter what you fix or replace, if you don't find the drain on the battery, it will always result in a dead battery. Usual problem is a trunk light left on, or something like that.
it could be a few things a lot of the time its because someone improperly hooked up a stero system. have you had a new cd player put in recently.
If your headlights go dim you need a new alternator
You can't "drain an alternator" !!
or do you mean the alternators not the problem?
Not starting? bad starter
Lights on
Poor connections...
