There are now DIY places that will rent you the tools and you only have to supply the car and your expertise and time. That might be a much better way to go, since hydraulic lifts (lifts, that is, which consistently work, or do not allow the car to fall on you) are expensive. You better have a two storey garage too, or else you'll have to build one.
you can pick up a hydraulic lift from a garage sale or maybe an estate sale. it is best to go ahead though and pay the full price for a good new one and be sure that it will work then to be under a car and have the thing go down on top of you. so don't be cheap. do the right thing and pay for a new one. Thanks for the question friend. God bless.
