Some are easy to replace, others require removing major components. The fact that he hasn't fixed it means it's gonna cost a lot!
Read Rule #1 when buying a used car

He made that up. The car is a POS with stuff wrong with it. Freeze plugs are not called "soft plugs". Go back and read what StPauliGuy said again. Let him keep the car and all it's problems.
soft plugs, core plugs, freeze plugs, all the same idea. they may not pop out in a freeze though. they can fail due to age and rust. i just replaced them on an HO 400 pontiac engine a few years ago in the vehicle that you se to the left.
if he is talking about freeze plugs there are two kinds soft made out of rubber with compression bolts that hold them in place and steel which are an interference or expansion fit and yes you need a mechanic if that is what he is talking about
Heard of spark plugs but not soft plugs. Basically needs a tune-up, maybe cost around $350 with filter and wires changes at the local mechanic.
I have been looking into buying a blazer, the seller says I need to "replace the soft plugs" what does this mean, what are soft plugs, what do they do and would replacing them be expensive or require a professional mechanic? thanks guys
