Edit to add, this may be a bad fan clutch on the water pump too. Old school and FWD lol.
They bla, bla on for a bit and show the the clutch eventually. You will see that the actual clutch is behind the thermostatic blade control, they are not integrated into one unit on that application.
First check the coolant then make sure no visible issues that y can see also replace the temp sensor and thermostat the fan clutch may have went bad depending on how hot it was when you hot back you might need to get a head gasket set and redo the heads if they didn't crack or warp that would be worst case but always start with the cheap and easy before jumping into the big stuff also if that was my truck dude would have a black eye and broken jaw
Like above said, letting it idle for that long isnt going to hurt anything. Take to shop & let them look at it
1st check coolant level, also if u know how check if air in system check rad cap is on right an tight and seals good make sure fan runs an feel rad hose to see if when it gets warm top hose goes from hard to soft making sure thermostat works look for any leaks an last well u could of head gasket issues check oil if watery that is a sign
Leaving it idle should not make any difference unless there was already a engine issue.
Okay here go, I was going out and left my windows down . Handed keys to my buddy asked him to go roll them up ( first mistake). Well he starts the truck rolls windows up than leaves truck idling in park. So I leave thinking nothing of it and come back and notice truck idling. It's been two hours of idling . The truck is jet black, in the middle of the scorching sun idling. Anyways, I turned it off, let it cool down for a bit. Went to drive it later that night and now the truck is running hot. It's not constantly hot, it will go up to almost redline , drop to like half way, a little below than jump back up. Can someone provide any insight please ?
