When was the last time a Toyota Dealer changed the transmission fluid and transmission filter? If you have over 65,000 miles on the motor it's way overdue. The 2005 five speed automatics weren't the most dependable either!
This Camry was bought brand new from Toyota dealership for my wife and has less than 40,000 miles on it. When I took it back to the dealership the sales person told me his wife has a Camry with similar delay issues with the tranny - if you google Camry transmission problems you will find a ton of complaints . I think the best thing is to give it back to dealership and move on.
"Normal for Toyota to have screwed-up transmissions". Sorry, but no - overall, Toyota has excellent track records for transmissions.
The dealer is trying to get you to buy another car. Was the dealer you talked to a Toyota dealer? If so, don't you think it's very odd for them to badmouth their own product?
I think I would have passed on buying a car with a transmission that "struggles to shift" . . . . or at least taken it to a dealer/mechanic BEFORE I bought it, not after. As others have said, Toyotas have extremely reliable transmissions - - - apparently not all their dealers are.
Most cars including Toyota had dependable transmissions, don't obsess over one car which had transmission problems. It is NOT normal for Toyota's to have transmission problems.
It's 10 years old. (First '05s were manufactured in 2004.) Given the amount of transmission maintenance performed by most people -- none -- it may very well be flaky. However, something like 99 percent of the time "they all do that" is simply smoke aimed at one's posterior.
I have 2005 Toyota and its transmission is not very smooth , it struggles to shift while driving slow speeds inside city and from stop to start. I took it to dealer when I bought it and they said it is normal for Toyotas to have screwed up transmissions. I am considering to buy a new Camry due to 0 percent APR , does the new Camry have similar problems ?
