Technical brake question. Mechanics help!?

it sounds as though one pad has worn await and backing is now contacting rotor.. though also possible is small stone etc caught on edge of pad.

no need to be pedantic on servicing. 250 miles is not worth worrying about either before or after set service recommended point.

so it may well be due to excess pad wear.possibly compounded by one piston sticking.

Your teacher is a bit lack luster on brake service skills obviously, he only needed to push the piston back a 1/4 inch to reassemble it. If they are now hanging up on the caliper bolts (no silicone grease or bad slide bolt seal), clean the bolts and use new bolt seals. It is always a good idea to knock off the rust in the caliper mount / caliper area with a file to make sure it slides clean on the caliper bolt pins without binding up.

Check how hot your rims are after a long drive. It should have the same temperature on all four rims and is not too hot to touch. If it is then your caliper needs to be overhauled(caliper kit optional). But if all is ok then it must be your brake pads indicator(a piece of bent metal attached to the pads) telling you to replace you brakes.

try washing the brakes see if it helps.

My mom's car is a 2011 Subaru Forester. She has only serviced her car at the dealer and has had no problems up to this point. However, we recently noticed squeaking brakes and assumed it was the brake pads. I am in an auto class at school so I took her car there to inspect the brakes. The mechanic said that the pads should be replaced soon but are not dangerous. He then proceeded to used a C-clamp to compress the caliper pistons and put the caliper back on. The next day, I started to noticed that when I would brake, the car would pull to the left. I took it back to auto class the next day and we figured out that the caliper piston wasn't releasing. The teacher applied some brake grease around the pistons and that problem was solved. However, I noticed something new today. When the car is in motion at a lower speed, the wheels/brakes are grinding in front. When i press the brake, the grinding stops. Could this just be because the pads are worn? Don't tell me to get to the mechanic immediately because my mom is getting her car serviced at 30000 miles at the dealer. She has about 250 miles to go. I don't wanna bring it back to auto class and mess with it anymore. What could be causing this never ending struggle that was nonexistent until I brought it into class. Thanks for the help!
