Okay,any older mechanic..........
Back in the day before alternators dynamos were the fitted unit for charging the battery.
and it was quite easy to change the direction of rotation.
Now a dynamo when driven by a belt produces electricity,
when connected up using jump leads,on the bench,is a motor.and will turn as so.
now depending on which end of the battery is connected to the frame determines the direction of turn.
if it's the wrong direction you reverse the jump leads, connect say the pos + jump lead to the starter frame and flick/just touch the meg lead to the starter motor input power lead, NOT THE SOLENOID.
It's real easy to change the direction of rotation of any D C device.
and it's pretty easy to alter the magnetic field of a starter,
as you've found out.
Optical illusion. You cannot wire it up backward...as the engine block is the ground wire. However, it may be the starter is still engaged to the ring gear.(weird noise is the starter turning) Recheck you little wires. If one you are not sure of, try disconnecting it and maybe it goes someplace else?
Blind as a bat here.
LOL, why would you rebuild it??? Starters are cheap enough to just go buy one. I gues your starter rebuilding skills really suck. you better hope you didnt cause the timing chain to jump a tooth
Toss the starter and replace with new before you destroy the ring gear!
go to a parts store and let them test its performance. also make sure the wires were not put on wrong causing it to spin the other way
I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder and I took the starter apart and rebuilt it, and now the car is starting but is making a weird noise, and it looks like its turning the wrong way and not the way its suppose to. What should i do to make it normal? Did i do something wrong?
