Squeeling and trouble starting up my car?

You have two things that desperately need to be replaced. The first is the battery. Even having to jump it once shortens the life a lot, and having to do it multiple times is death to it. The next is the alternator belt, which is worn out. It has been a few decades since belts could simply be tightened; when modern belts start to squeal it is always replacement time. As long as that belt is being replaced the other one should be replaced at the same time.

After that, see where you stand. The check engine light may be a separate thing, as the hazard lights may be.

In the mornings when older belts are cool they do not bite the way they should. They will squeel until they warm up. They may also just need tightening.

If you are constantly discharging the battery completely it will eventually not take a charge any longer and you will need a new one. This could also account for the check engine light coming on.

The hazard lights??? Have it checked for a short in the system.

I'm not much of a mechanic but a poorly adjusted or just old and decrepit alternator belt would account for a fair number of those symptoms. The alternator belt makes a heck of a racket, fails to turn the alternator properly, so the battery doesn't charge and your car won't start. I don't know about the hazard warning lights though.

The alternator or serpentine belt is loose. You could try a grip product from an auto parts store - belt dressing. If it is an adjustable belt, just tighten it; but like Flag says, most serpentine belts have automatic tensioners and if it has reached it's limit, your belt will have to be replaced - it has stretched too far out of shape to be effective. The belt can continue to slip even when not making a noise. I would tighten / replace it first then go from there should your other power problems continue.

With the engine off if tou can push or pull the serpentine belt more than 1/8 inch, you need a new *serpentine belt tensioner because your belt is too loose.

Looks like the rubber fan belt is worn or loose or both.

a lose belt will do that. the tension-er may be a bit lax.

So I recently got an old used car from my brother-in-law for relatively cheap. It's a 1996 Mazda MX6. When I first got it, it ran fine and I had no problems. Recently however, I've noticed some troubling signs coming from my car. The first is the squeeling. Every morning when I pull out of my court and begin to accelerate, my car squeels very loud, however I just take my foot of my gas for a few seconds and it doesnt happen again for the rest of the day. The next problem is my battery. I always forget to turn my lights off at school, and I have had to get it jump started multiple times. Yesterday I jump started it again, it died at a red light and i had to turn my car back on and today it barely started. The check engine light is constantly turning on and off, and my hazards like to randomly come on sometimes while im not in the car. it hasnt happened as much recently though. Any suggestions as to what could be causing these problems and any suggestions?
