do not attempt to start the car. It may cause further damage.
Since you tried to start the car, you sucked the water into the lines, filters and injectors/carb. all that will need to be flushed out.
You will need to drain the tank, flush out the lines and replace fuel filters.
Paper filter elements are meant to be used with fuel or oil only. You know what happens when paper gets wet. mush. Many cars have a filter in the tank... so just plan on dropping the tank.
Is it a fuel injected car or old school carb? if carb it will probably need to be removed and float bowl cleaned out.
Cost will be based on many factors. type of car, local labor rate, the shop you take it to, what parts are needed...
PS. buy a locking gas cap.
Water and fuel don’t mix, so it’s never a good idea to put water into a car’s gas tank. However, when water does get into a gas tank, either accidentally, or as the result of a malicious prank, the result is engine trouble.
Not sure of the cost, but you probably need to drop the gas tank, drain it completely, then reinstall your tank . Only then refilling the tank maybe with one more dry gas added.
If you have not tried to start the car it will be as simple as draining the tank and re fuelling. If you have the whole system needs to be flushed and that will double the price of just draining the tank.
So someone decided to put water in my gas tank, and by water, I mean upwards of 10 gallons of water. I have tried to pump and that did not work, added some dry gas stuff and that didn't work either... How much will it cost to get all of the water out of the tank so that the car can run fine again? Thx for any and all answers.
