Slipping Clutch. What should I do?

Sounds like your Mitsubshi Dealer LIED to you. The car is supposed to have a 10 year drive-train warranty which would include the clutch.

Spend more time reading your own worthless warranty in the manual in the glove compartment.

I hope the problem is that they don't make clutches like they used to. I've got a 1986 Toyota 4Runner with the original clutch. Also a 2001 Dodge Dakota - original clutch. If you get everything fixed you might have to spend some time retraining yourself to stay off the clutch. No sitting in idle with your foot pushing in the clutch at traffic lights, when you see a stop coming up, no gearing down with the clutch, just stick it in neutral foot off the clutch and brake to a stop. Remember sitting at the stop foot on brake but not clutch, Sure it takes a bit longer to start up but your clutch will last much longer.

Once the clutch starts to slip, it means that either the rear seal is leaking oil on the clutch, or the pressure plate is weak due to overheating, or the disc itself is completely worn out. One way or another, it needs to be completely overhauled. It is hydraulically controlled, and self-adjusting... more or less, unless it's bottomed out, then you have to loosen it up a couple of turns. A decent mechanic would be able to tell right away.

Why would you go to a Stealership?

Richard has my vote.

It will cost me $1000 to replace the clutch in my 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse, says the local mitsubishi service department.

I want to know why my clutch is slipping and is getting worse and worse. It only slipped when I was driving down the highway in 5th or 6th gear, but not I am starting to notice it happens in 2nd and 3rd gear. I am not an outstanding driver but not horrible either, if anything I would say I am in Above Average category. I try to drive with the perfect balance between the gas and clutch and never burn the clutch.

Why is it getting worse? can any adjustments be made? can it be any other problems?

Leaks? Flywheel? Linkage? Pedal? any one of those would be either cheaper to fix or covered in warranty at least...

Please give me some advice :(

Thanks,
