Replaced my alternator, but they have different types of plugs?

Your not going to fry anything, the alternator works by demand so it only will supply what is needed don't listen to Boo the internet expert.

I am assuming that it is a one wire alternator, most today are setup that way. So what your dad did was fine. You said it worked for a few days does that mean the light was out? That would show it was working but if the light never went out then the problem has not been fixed. Look at dads fix to see if it is burnt, it may not have been done right.

The fact that the alternator has a higher amp rating than the old one is irrelevant. It just means that extra current is available even though your car's electrical systems won't ever need it unless you plan on doing something like installing a powerful sub system or something. It might be possible your dads adapter modification failed and needs to be redone.

Hello

Then you got the wrong one. Most cars have a couple of different alternators that could be fitted. Take the original with you and you get the right one.

well, it would seem that you replace your old alternator with the wrong one. my suggestion is to take that new one off and get the right one put in. unless you just want to fry the entire electrical system in your car.
