The box holds the air filter & it is usually designed to help silence the air flow into the engine. If you replace the factory flat filter with a conical one & do away with the box, it will sound different, but I wouldn't call it loud. Just better.....

Yes it will sound louder, more of a grumble.

Air filter is a definitely needed thing in your vehicle. Removal of that causes engine damage. Engine takes the unfiltered air and the dust slowly accumulates in the head and then you'll find it more trouble to sort out the problem

Yes it will sound loud. But that sound is due to turbulence. And turbulence screws up the MAF sensor. That's why so many people who add aftermarket cold air intakes wind up with a check engine light after installation. The factory unit is tuned. Leave it alone.
