You don't change the CAT till the old one starts rattling like it has rocks in it. Then you know it is worn out.
, It needs arc welding because stuff vibrates so braze will break. Your little unit unless it is tanks (one oxygen and the other acetylene) cannot braze squat. Better for soldering copper pipe.
As for the CAT, let a muffler shop weld it on. They know how to do that properly and do a good job. Not a clamp job.
NEVER is correct. Take it to a muffler shop. I had a new universal unit welded onto my daughter's old car for 150 dollars.
TIG would be the best, MIG would work. My son and I built a straight pipe for his 6.2 diesel with pipe scraps he had from exhausts on his other 5 trucks. He MIG welded all of it before he went to school and became a professional welder/fitter.
ink is almost nothing.
I did some brazing in high school so I know how to do that, and I have a little welding kit I got at the hardware store, not sure if you can really weld with that, but maybe you can.
So I am thinking of cutting off my catalytic converter and putting on a new one, I'd rather just clamp it but I don't think I will have room for the clamps on one side.
Do you think I could weld it, or do you think it takes more experience than brazing?
Also do you think brazing would be good enough or does it have to be welded?
