There are many parts inside a starter, which can wear or damage. It's hard to tell exactly whats wrong without inspection. Please repair and test it by professional mechanic or simply replace it.

And please check the wires and connector for proper connection and for any dirt ingress.

You need a new starter but beware those provided by msain dealers are very expensive.

I don't get why anyone would drive around with a starter they know is bad .

I have a bad starter on my car. On days when it it cool out, it works completely fine. But on warm and hot days it has to cool down before starting or I have to tap the starter for it to work. Why is this ?
